The Fault Passage Indicator (FPI) is an automatic device designed
for installation on overhead distribution lines to monitor current
and voltage parameters, detect faults, and reduce outage times. It
can be mounted under live conditions using an adapter and a hot
stick. Faults are indicated by six flashing LEDs in a concentrated
vertebral body for enhanced visibility.
The FPI sends fault messages to the Control Centre, which then
alerts the service team. It distinguishes between permanent and
temporary faults and can be integrated with auto-reclosers in the
network for optimized fault indication. The device measures the true
virtual value of current with a 12-bit ADC, and its bidirectional RF
module allows real-time current transmission. Trip current settings
and reset times can be configured remotely without dismounting the
FPI. A magnetic switch is used to check the operational mode and
reset the device. The data collection unit can store up to 100 local
events.
